Use AnimatedWebs in Amp
Amp adds the AnimatedWebs MCP server with amp mcp add or an amp.mcpServers entry in settings.json. Amp supports OAuth for remote servers, so it opens a sign-in page the next time you start it.
- Connects with
- Remote url in amp.mcpServers
- Sign-in
- OAuth, or a headers entry
- Config file
- ~/.config/amp/settings.json
Set up AnimatedWebs in Amp
Server address: https://mcp.animatedwebs.com
- 1
Add the server
Use the command or edit the user settings file. A workspace file, .amp/settings.json, also works but needs approval.
terminalamp mcp add animatedwebs https://mcp.animatedwebs.com~/.config/amp/settings.json{ "amp.mcpServers": { "animatedwebs": { "url": "https://mcp.animatedwebs.com" } } } - 2
Sign in
For a local config, Amp opens the sign-in page when you start the TUI after you add the URL entry. Approve access with your AnimatedWebs account.
- 3
Approve workspace servers
If you put the entry in .amp/settings.json, run amp mcp approve animatedwebs once. Servers in your user settings need no approval.
- 4
Ask for a template
Start Amp and ask for a design. Amp calls the AnimatedWebs tools.
Headless or CI? Use an API key from your dashboard instead of the browser sign-in.
Check that it works
- Run amp mcp doctor. A workspace server that still needs approval is reported as awaiting approval.
- Ask it to run the get_account tool from the animatedwebs server. A reply with your plan and today's usage means the connection and your sign-in both work.
Three requests to try
Paste one into Amp. Each one makes it call real AnimatedWebs tools.

- The workspace server is not running
- Workspace servers need approval. Run amp mcp approve animatedwebs.
- A stale or revoked token
- Run amp mcp oauth logout animatedwebs and restart Amp so it asks you to sign in again.
- You are inside an Amp orb
- Amp's docs say browser OAuth does not work in orbs. Pass the key through headers using secrets instead.
- You want the API key out of the file
- Amp's docs show a header that reads an environment variable, written ${NAME}. Set Authorization to Bearer ${ANIMATEDWEBS_KEY} and export that variable before you start Amp.
Questions about Amp and AnimatedWebs
Does amp mcp add accept a header?+
Amp's docs show amp mcp add with a name and a URL only. Headers appear in the settings JSON, which is why the API key snippet uses the file.
Can I register the OAuth client by hand?+
Amp has amp mcp oauth login with client id, secret and scopes for servers that need manual setup. AnimatedWebs supports dynamic client registration, so the automatic flow is enough.
User settings or workspace settings?+
~/.config/amp/settings.json is yours and applies everywhere. .amp/settings.json lives in the repo and needs amp mcp approve.
How do I keep too many tools from cluttering Amp?+
Amp's docs recommend bundling MCP servers in skills, so the tools load only when needed, and disabling the MCP tools you do not use.
Facts checked on
