Use AnimatedWebs in Cline
Cline adds the AnimatedWebs MCP server as a streamableHttp entry in cline_mcp_settings.json, authenticated with an Authorization header that holds your API key. You can also enter the URL in Cline's Remote Servers tab.
- Connects with
- type streamableHttp
- Sign-in
- Authorization header with your API key
- Config file
- cline_mcp_settings.json
Set up AnimatedWebs in Cline
Server address: https://mcp.animatedwebs.com
- 1
Copy your API key
Open the developer page in your AnimatedWebs dashboard and copy the aw_ key. Free accounts have one.
- 2
Open the MCP settings
Click the MCP Servers icon in Cline's top toolbar, open the Configure tab and choose Configure MCP Servers.
- 3
Add the server
Put this under mcpServers and replace aw_your_key with your own key. Set type explicitly, because Cline defaults to the legacy sse transport when it is missing.
cline_mcp_settings.json{ "mcpServers": { "animatedwebs": { "type": "streamableHttp", "url": "https://mcp.animatedwebs.com", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer aw_your_key" }, "disabled": false } } } - 4
Check the tools
Save the file. The server and its tools should appear in the MCP Servers panel; then ask Cline for a template.
Your API key is on the developer page of your dashboard. Every account has one, free accounts included.
Check that it works
- Confirm that animatedwebs shows up in the MCP Servers panel with its tools listed, then test one tool call too.
- Ask it to run the get_account tool from the animatedwebs server. A reply with your plan and today's usage means the connection and your sign-in both work.
Three requests to try
Paste one into Cline. Each one makes it call real AnimatedWebs tools.

- The server will not connect
- Verify the URL and that type is streamableHttp. Cline's docs list URL, server status and port as the first things to check.
- Auth errors
- Recheck the Authorization header. The value is the word Bearer, a space and then your aw_ key.
- Timeouts
- Increase Cline's MCP timeout and test the server from another client to see whether the problem is local.
- The server hangs after an edit
- Disable and re-enable it from the MCP settings, or restart it there, as the Cline docs suggest for unresponsive servers.
Questions about Cline and AnimatedWebs
Can I add it without editing JSON?+
Partly. The Remote Servers tab asks for a name, the full URL and a transport type, so choose Streamable HTTP there. The docs show the Authorization header in the JSON file, so check that the entry has it.
Does Cline support OAuth for this?+
Cline's CLI wizard has an Authorize OAuth action for remote servers. Its IDE docs describe header authentication, which is what this guide uses.
Where is the file for the Cline CLI?+
~/.cline/data/settings/cline_mcp_settings.json, and CLINE_MCP_SETTINGS_PATH overrides the path.
Why streamableHttp and not sse?+
Cline marks Streamable HTTP as recommended and SSE as legacy. AnimatedWebs serves Streamable HTTP.

- Cline supports remote servers over Streamable HTTP (recommended) and SSE (legacy); type selects the transport and defaults to sse if missing. Cline MCP docs ↗
- Remote entries take url and headers; the IDE path is MCP Servers icon, Configure tab, Configure MCP Servers. Cline MCP docs ↗
- The CLI keeps settings in ~/.cline/data/settings/cline_mcp_settings.json and cline config mcp lists servers. Cline MCP docs ↗
