Use AnimatedWebs in OpenCode

OpenCode adds the AnimatedWebs MCP server as a remote entry in opencode.json and runs the OAuth sign-in with opencode mcp auth. opencode mcp list shows whether the server is authenticated.

Set up AnimatedWebs in OpenCode

Server address: https://mcp.animatedwebs.com

  1. 1

    Edit opencode.json

    Add the animatedwebs entry under mcp, in your global config or in the project's opencode.json.

    opencode.json
    {
      "$schema": "https://opencode.ai/config.json",
      "mcp": {
        "animatedwebs": {
          "type": "remote",
          "url": "https://mcp.animatedwebs.com",
          "enabled": true
        }
      }
    }
    terminal
    opencode mcp auth animatedwebs
  2. 2

    Authenticate

    When the server answers 401, OpenCode starts OAuth on its own and uses Dynamic Client Registration. opencode mcp auth animatedwebs starts it by hand and opens your browser.

  3. 3

    Check the status

    Run opencode mcp list to see each server and its auth status.

  4. 4

    Ask for a template

    Start OpenCode and name the server in your prompt. Tools are registered with the server name as a prefix.

Headless or CI? Use an API key from your dashboard instead of the browser sign-in.

Check that it works

  • Run opencode mcp list. It lists each server and its auth status, so animatedwebs should not show as unauthenticated. opencode mcp debug animatedwebs checks connectivity and the OAuth discovery flow.
  • Ask it to run the get_account tool from the animatedwebs server. A reply with your plan and today's usage means the connection and your sign-in both work.

Three requests to try

Paste one into OpenCode. Each one makes it call real AnimatedWebs tools.

example prompt 1
Use animatedwebs to find a template for an electrician in Atlanta and build it in this repo.
example prompt 2
Use animatedwebs to search backgrounds for a hero video for a marina and add the clip with a poster.
example prompt 3
With animatedwebs, get the style reference for a Notion-like site and generate CSS variables from it.

If something goes wrong in OpenCode

Authentication fails
Run opencode mcp debug animatedwebs to check connectivity and the OAuth discovery steps.
OAuth gets in the way of an API key
Set "oauth": false and pass the key through headers, as the API key snippet in the dashboard does.
The server times out while connecting
timeout defaults to 30000 ms (30 seconds) when OpenCode connects and fetches the tool list. Raise it on the server entry if your network is slow.
Too much context used by tools
MCP tools use context. Disable the ones you do not need with a glob under tools, for example "animatedwebs*": false, and re-enable them for one agent.

Questions about OpenCode and AnimatedWebs

Where are OAuth tokens stored?+

In ~/.local/share/opencode/mcp-auth.json according to the OpenCode docs. opencode mcp logout animatedwebs removes them.

Do I need to register an OAuth client?+

No. OpenCode uses Dynamic Client Registration when the server supports it, and AnimatedWebs does.

Where does opencode.json go?+

OpenCode's MCP page points to its config docs for locations. Use your global config for every project or the project's own file for one.

Is the server enabled by default?+

The entry has an enabled flag, set to true above. Remote servers from an organization may be off by default until you add a local entry with enabled true.

Facts checked on

What this page says about OpenCode comes from its official documentation, linked below, and OpenCode can change, so check its docs for the latest. What it says about AnimatedWebs comes from how our own MCP server works.

  • A remote server uses type remote and a url under the mcp key, with optional enabled, headers, oauth and timeout. OpenCode MCP docs ↗
  • OAuth starts automatically on a 401 and uses Dynamic Client Registration; "oauth": false switches it off for API key servers. OpenCode MCP docs ↗
  • opencode mcp auth, list, logout and debug manage and check servers; timeout defaults to 30000 ms when connecting and fetching tools. OpenCode MCP docs ↗
