Use AnimatedWebs in Claude Desktop
Claude Desktop connects to AnimatedWebs through a custom connector: paste the MCP URL, sign in, and turn the connector on in a chat. Claude then searches templates and fetches build prompts without any config file.

Set up AnimatedWebs in Claude Desktop

Open Connectors
In Claude, go to Customize, then Connectors, click Add and choose Add custom connector.

Paste the URL
Enter a name such as AnimatedWebs and paste the server URL below, then continue.

Choose how to sign in
In the Authentication step choose Sign in now and sign in with your AnimatedWebs account. If you would rather use an API key, add an Authorization header with Bearer and your aw_ key under Request headers instead.

Turn it on in a chat
Click the + button at the lower left of a chat, open Connectors and switch AnimatedWebs on. Then ask for a design.
Headless or CI? Use an API key from your dashboard instead of the browser sign-in.
Check that it works
- Open the + menu in a chat, then Connectors. AnimatedWebs should be listed with its toggle on.
- Ask it to run the get_account tool from the animatedwebs server. A reply with your plan and today's usage means the connection and your sign-in both work.

- Claude cannot reach the server
- Connectors connect from Anthropic's cloud, not from your computer, so a VPN or firewall on your side does not matter. Check the URL for typos, then remove the connector and add it again.
- You cannot add a custom connector
- On Team and Enterprise plans only an Owner or Primary Owner adds one, under Organization settings, Connectors. Members then click Connect.
- Free plan limit
- Free accounts can add one custom connector. Remove another one, or move to a paid Claude plan.
- The connector is added but unused
- Switch it on per chat in the + menu, under Connectors.
Questions about Claude Desktop and AnimatedWebs
Do I edit claude_desktop_config.json?+
No. Claude's help center describes that file as a separate mechanism for local servers. A remote server like AnimatedWebs is added as a connector in your Claude account.
Is this only for the desktop app?+
The steps are in Claude's Customize area, and Claude's help center describes remote connectors as configured through your Claude account rather than a local file.
Can I use an API key?+
Yes. Under Request headers, add Authorization with the value Bearer aw_... for a fixed credential instead of OAuth.
Which Claude plans can add it?+
Claude's help center lists Free (one custom connector), Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise.
